I don’t normally put up anything overtly political on this site—I have been so reluctant to alienate the few people who do come here… but I am taking a class at SVA called Citizen Designer, all about being a designer with activist urges. It’s making me think a lot about my heavy editing. The fact is, there are a lot of things upon which I have very strong opinions, and I am so tired of churning out middle of the road, milquetoast crap.
So anyway, I chose to do the first assignment (protest poster) about animal cruelty. Right now, I am in the midst of an excruciating image search, but I did find some really awful animal testing pics that I made into quick posters. One thing: my go-to solution is uppercase san-serif. Need to get out of that rut…
One thing: I am not a member of PETA. I used their logo because I felt the images fit a certain timbre that suits their previous ads and interventions. I do not agree with some of their tactics, but they are certainly the best known animal rights group out there.
Here are my first drafts… I was a little pissed off at the time.
